Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Thursday, October 29 that there would be no national containment despite the drastic increase in coronavirus cases in Russia recorded in recent weeks.

We fully understand how to act and that is why we are not going to put in place totally restrictive measures, and establish a so-called national confinement under which the economy and commercial activities are practically at a standstill
" Mr. Putin said at a video conference investment forum.
“
Despite a difficult epidemiological situation, we are much better prepared to work in the conditions posed by this epidemic,
” added the Russian president, referring to the country's capacities to mobilize its health system and the implementation of preventive measures.

According to him, if necessary, “
targeted and justified

measures
could be taken independently in regions or cities “
to protect the safety of people as much as possible
”, while maintaining “
business activities
”.
Russia, which has seen a major resurgence of the epidemic in recent weeks, recorded 17,717 new cases of coronavirus and 366 deaths on Thursday, a record.
The country is in fourth place in the world in number of recorded cases, with a total of 1,581,693 infections and 27,301 deaths.
