Oil prices rose more than 2% today after President Donald Trump's claim of winning the US presidential election and after data that showed a significant drop in US crude stocks.
According to Reuters, West Texas Intermediate crude rose 80 cents, equivalent to 2.1 percent, to $ 38.46 a barrel today, while Brent crude rose 92 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $ 40.63.
Both benchmarks and oil prices extended their gains to their highest levels in the session after data showed that crude inventories in the United States fell by eight million barrels last week, as Hurricane Zeta reduced production in the Gulf of Mexico during that period.
