The CFE-CGC, the group's leading union, signed this agreement, which covers job cuts in engineering and tertiary functions in France.

The elimination of 2,500 jobs at Renault has been completed.

This Thursday, the CFE-CGC, the manufacturer's first union, announced that it had decided to sign the agreement which will lead to these cuts in the engineering and tertiary functions of the group in France.

This text is part of the savings plan of more than 2 billion euros over three years, announced at the end of May by the management.

It had already been signed by FO, Renault's fourth union.

Between them, the CFE-CGC and FO have a total of just over 50% of union representativeness, which allows them to jointly validate the agreement.

The other two representative unions, the CFDT (second) and the CGT (third), are due to vote later today this Thursday.

The agreement only provides for voluntary departures.

A situation which, according to the CFE-CGC, "

prevents employees from layoffs via a job protection plan that Renault's situation could have justified

".

On Monday, FO had also welcomed the fact that there would be "

no forced departures

".

Thus, of the 2,500 jobs lost, "

1900 will ultimately be the subject of a voluntary departure plan, the remaining 600 having been made by natural departures this year,

" says FO.

In addition to voluntary departures by collective contractual termination (RCC), possible until the end of September 2021, the agreement contains a component of “

exemption from activity

” for employees nearing retirement.

Develop new skills

For staff who remain in the company, the text provides for the possibility of training.

This component "

of reconversion and development of skills aims to maintain the level of employability of employees

", noted the CFE-CGC.

"

For example, an engineer who works on heat engines may consider a certification training on electric motors

", explained Guillaume Ribeyre, central union representative of this union.

"

This agreement will make it possible to anticipate the adaptation and development of new skills and to meet the needs for the profound transformation of trades in the automotive sector

", adds FO in its press release.

At the same time, internal mobility will be facilitated by allowing “

inter-business mobility

” within the group and “

all vacant positions will be posted,

” said Guillaume Ribeyre.

With measures to prevent psychosocial risks in this context of restructuring, the agreement also contains an "

action plan to support change and strengthen listening to employees

", noted management last week in a press release. .

Maintenance of activity

In great financial difficulty, Renault had indicated at the end of May that it would cut 15,000 jobs worldwide, including 4,600 in France.

The government, then led by Édouard Philippe, had warned that it would be "

uncompromising on the preservation of Renault sites in France

".

The chairman of the board of directors of Renault, Jean-Dominique Senard, had given pledges on the maintenance in France of value-added activities such as the assembly, in Cléon, of a new electric motor intended for the three partners of the Alliance, Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, but also the repatriation to Douai of the assembly of vehicles which took place outside France.
