The Wirecard accounting scandal is now also being investigated against former auditors at Ernst & Young.

This was confirmed by the responsible public prosecutor in Munich.

The background is therefore a criminal complaint filed against Ernst & Young by the auditor supervisory authority APAS.

Ernst & Young stated that the company was not aware of any indications of criminal behavior by its auditors at Wirecard.

Test order not taken seriously enough

There have been repeated allegations against Ernst & Young that they did not take the audit order for Wirecard sufficiently seriously and thus alleviated dubious business practices of the financial service provider.

According to the public prosecutor's office, Wirecard had been using air bookings to beautify its books for years.

Wirecard had to file for bankruptcy in the summer.

As a result, creditors have asserted more than twelve billion euros in claims.
