Those receiving the basic pension, which will apply from January, will have to wait until the middle of next year for their money.

Then the basic pension will be granted retrospectively to January 1st, said Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) the newspapers of the "Funke Mediengruppe".

"Pensioners who are entitled to the basic pension will therefore receive their entitlements in full."

The basic pension law comes into force on January 1st.

But due to the high administrative effort, especially with the income test, the payment is delayed.

The corona crisis also played a role.

People who have worked long hours, raised children or cared for relatives must get a better pension in old age, Heil said.

"1.3 million people benefit from this, especially women who have always worked but whose wages are far too low." An application is not necessary.

The payout will "be made completely automatically."
