Home office doesn't mean for Elena Cremer and her boyfriend that they stare at the laptops next to each other at the dining table.

Cremer's friend is a fitness trainer.

He now gives his courses online - from the living room.

Elena Cremer, on the other hand, needs the space to showcase her self-baked desserts, cakes and cookies: She is a food photographer, and she presents a wide variety of sweets on her website “La Crema Patisserie”.

The two's Berlin apartment is therefore currently a fitness center, professional kitchen and photo studio in one - and all of this on 45 square meters.

"That really doesn't work," says Cremer.

More than ever, the couple needed a new place to stay; they have been looking for two years.

"But the situation is completely hopeless," says Cremer.

Especially as self-employed, they would have no chance.

The situation on the housing market has hardly relaxed even in times of Corona.

At the beginning of the pandemic, some experts thought an abrupt end to the year-long real estate boom was possible: The economic crisis would affect purchase prices and thus also rents at some point, according to the assumption.
