I wonder what he would have said if he had seen how low the art of lying has deteriorated nowadays.
Take for example the Minister of Education, Yoav Galant.
He said in an interview this week that "it is not possible to maintain a full closure when the education system is open. Not because the education system is contagious or the schools are contagious, on the contrary - they are restraining, but it creates movements of millions of people across the country. ".

There are some lies in this sentence, some of them successful, some less so.
The most successful lie is the minister's claim that the education system and schools are not contagious.
This is a successful lie, because Minister Galant is telling the truth.
Systems cannot be infected and schools cannot be infected.
The problem, of course, is that students and teachers do get infected and infected, and Galant is not talking about that.
A less successful lie is the claim that the education system curbs morbidity.
The second closure began because in September, within two weeks of the schools opening the number of patients discovered each day had tripled.
Two weeks after the closure began, the number of new patients has already dropped sharply.
In this closure, however, not only does the number of patients not decrease, it only increases.
At the beginning of the closure, about 4,000 new patients a day were discovered.
This week, over 8,000 have been discovered each day.
The main difference between the second closure and the current closure is that in the second closure the schools were closed, and at present not.
The Minister's attempt to argue otherwise reminds me of Mark Twain's statement about three types of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics.

That's how Galant could really contribute
An even less successful lie of the Minister is the statement that it is not the students and teachers who pass on Corona, but the parents of the students.
Does the Minister mean that parents put their children in school and then start traveling around the country to catch up and infect others?
Or maybe he means the students' job is to stay home and make sure the parents don't infect anyone?
And the least successful lie is when the minister talks about the education system having to contribute its share to the national effort.
It may sound as if the teachers and students are under his command for a covert operation in the back of the Corona.
In practice, the Ministry of Education has succumbed to the demand of teachers' organizations, and everyone is moving to zoom.
I know personal information that teachers work hard even when they are teaching zoom.
But teaching zoom is not exactly a contribution to the national effort.
If the Minister of Education wanted to contribute to the national effort, he could, for example, make sure that the ultra-Orthodox educational institutions adhere to the rules, in order to reduce the time until the shops and malls can be opened.
He could fight so that teachers would be vaccinated relatively early, so that they would feel safe returning to classrooms.
At a minimum, he could fight the government over the cuts in executive pay, so that we can all see how government ministers, under his leadership, set a personal example.
But it turns out that it is easier for ministers to talk about a personal example, to give one.
