Some organizations affected by Covid-19 take months to catch their breath.
French nuclear power, a heavy industrial organization, will take several years to recover.
Plagued by the pandemic and the fall in electricity consumption, the electricity production of the nuclear fleet was historically low in 2020 and will remain so in 2021 and 2022. Because of the side effects of the virus, the 56 reactors should generate between 5% and 13 % fewer electrons during these two years, compared to EDF's pre-Covid forecasts.
"This range takes into account the uncertainties linked to changes in the health situation
," explains Étienne Dutheil, director of the nuclear production division at EDF.
We are not immune from tougher measures than at present, which would result in travel restrictions or the closure of accommodation used by our teams and subcontractors mobilized for the maintenance of the fleet. ”
This production deficit is already weighing on market prices.
