The decision of the EU Commission for the second generation of the Galileo program has been made in favor of Airbus and Thales Alenia Space.
The "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" and the "Handelsblatt" report unanimously.
The German company OHB was previously considered a likely candidate for the bid for the European GPS alternative.
According to insiders, the order volume is in the three-digit million euro range.
In the decision in favor of Airbus and Thales apparently no national reasons were decisive.
The decisive factor is the scoring by a jury under the umbrella of the European Space Agency (Esa), insider reports.
It was a clear decision among the three competitors, it was said in commission circles.
The first satellites are to be launched in 2024.
There was initially no official confirmation from the EU.
The Commission is not expected to announce its decision until the end of January.
An OHB spokesman told the “Handelsblatt” that he was not yet aware of any decision from Brussels.
