The acquisition of a stake in Prisa is part of Vivendi's strategy to strengthen itself as a global content, media and communication group, and to expand its access to the Spanish-speaking markets in Europe, Latin America and in the United States

”, indicates a press release using the same formula as on Friday and still without detailing the investment.

Vivendi announced on Friday that it had invested 7.6% in the capital of Prisa.

In difficulty for several years despite the good results of its Santillana school book publishing branch, Prisa also owns a 20% stake in Le Monde libre, a 75% shareholder in the daily Le Monde.

The Spanish group is headed by Joseph Oughourlian, the boss of the British fund Amber Capital, the largest shareholder with 29% of the capital, and who happens to be allied with Vivendi in the shareholder battle for control of the Lagardère group in France.

Acquired a year ago in the capital of the Lagardère group (owner of the media Europe 1, the JDD, Paris Match), Vivendi has since become the largest shareholder and has since tried to dislodge its boss Arnaud Lagardère.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the group controlled by Vincent Bolloré, currently on the offensive in the media, has invested around fifty million euros for its initial stake in Prisa.

On December 23, Vivendi, which also owns Canal +, also announced that it had signed a “

promise to purchase

” to acquire the entire Prisma Media press group, which claims to be the leader of the magazine press in France.
