The US electric car manufacturer Tesla wants to set up mass production with new technology in its planned battery cell factory in Grünheide near Berlin.
According to industry sources, a new cell type is to be produced in the factory that has five times more energy and six times more power.
This should increase the range by 16 percent.
The plan is to manufacture so-called dry electrodes, which use significantly less space and require less energy, it said.
The factory is to be built on the Tesla site in Grünheide in Brandenburg, in close proximity to the car factory that is under construction.
The start of construction for the battery factory is open, employees are already being sought.
