How much do you spend per month on teleworking, compared to a month of “classic” work in the office? To find out, test our simulate

You are telecommuting, encouraged by your company and by the government to stay at home to avoid the spread of Covid-19 and possible re-containment.

But how much does this work at home cost you, compared to a “classic” period of work in the office?

If you've ever asked yourself the question, but couldn't really answer it, then our tool may be able to help you.

For the first time, a human resources consulting firm has looked into the issue of the additional costs generated by telework for the employee.

According to the ConvictionsRH study, this cost can vary from 13 euros per month ... to 174 euros per month in the high range (excluding potential savings).

And for you, what is it?

To give you an idea, we have set up, with ConvictionsRH and the Parisien Data service, a simulator that allows you to calculate your current costs.

This simulator is based on an assumption of 20 days of teleworking per month.

The total calculation depends on the area of your home, your type of heating (electric or gas).

Indeed, the price of heating was included in this study taking into account the fact that some employees lower it, sometimes sharply, when going to work.

To evaluate this position, we based ourselves on 8 hours per day, 20 days per month use.

Purchase of supplies and computer equipment

On the other hand, expenses related to rent, Wi-Fi or telephone were not taken into account.

"Many employees have an unlimited package which does not entail additional expense", explains Marine Chabot, partner of the firm ConvictionsRH.

For meals, you can indicate whether you have meal vouchers.

If you do not have one, we calculate the cost on the basis of the rate recommended by Urssaf, i.e. 4.95 euros per meal.

To assess the difference from your usual lunch, we suggest that you indicate the amount you usually spend to eat at lunchtime, whether in the canteen or outside the company (sandwich, restaurant).

In addition to these ongoing costs, you can add the purchase of supplies (pen, paper, printer cartridges, etc.), or even hardware or computer equipment, if they are not reimbursed by your company.

Finally, and to be completely exact, if teleworking has a cost, it also sometimes allows savings.

This is the reason why we have provided a space to allow you to include certain saved expenses in your calculation, especially on transport costs.

In the end, our simulator will tell you if teleworking costs you, or allows you to save.

A few minutes are enough to answer the series of questions studied to visualize your final "calculator".

Of course, this simulator has no legal value and will not allow you to present the invoice to your employer.

At most, it will allow you to feed some discussions around the (virtual) coffee machine.

So it's up to you!
