Great victory for Thales Alenia Space (TAS) internationally.
After two years of competition, the subsidiary of the French Thales and the Italian Leonardo was chosen by the Canadian satellite operator Telesat as a partner of its future constellation in low orbit.
This, to the detriment of the Canadian Maxar and Airbus Space.
TAS wins a $ 3 billion contract to design the architecture of the constellation, dubbed LightSpeed, designed to provide very high speed connectivity.
It will provide the 298 satellites planned as part of the initial phase of this project at a total cost of 5 billion.
If commercial success is at the rendezvous, the constellation has the capacity to rotate 1,400 satellites at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,300 km from Earth.
