Throughout his career at L'Oréal, it was through contact with unforeseen and sometimes dramatic events that Jean-Paul Agon forged his legend as a captain capable of navigating the storm and leading ship, crew and cargo to good harbor.
Appointed for his first expatriation in 1981 at the head of the Greek subsidiary then in virtual bankruptcy, he was later bombarded boss of L'Oréal Germany in full post-reunification depression;
then he took charge of the Asia zone in 1997, and landed in the United States three weeks before September 11, 2001. Each time, he succeeded in reorganizing his subsidiary.
