RATP has announced the creation of a subsidiary dedicated to Ile-de-France, where public transport is gradually being opened up to competition.

The new entity, called RATP CAP Ile-de-France, will complete the public industrial and commercial establishment (Epic) RATP, which still has a monopoly in Paris and its inner suburbs and the subsidiary RATP Dev, operator in the provinces and abroad, explained the Régie in a press release Monday.

It "

will gradually become the vector for the group to respond to calls for tenders for urban and suburban transport in Ile-de-France, in particular on the bus network currently operated by RATP,

" she said.

RATP CAP Ile-de-France will be managed from March 1 by Xavier Léty, current director of the RER department.

"

This subsidiary will be able to offer Ile-de-France Mobilités and travelers the promise of trusted partnerships

," commented RATP CEO Catherine Guillouard.

"

This development of the group's commercial offer, at the service of cities and their inhabitants, is an important step in our transformation at the dawn of the opening up to competition of the Ile-de-France networks

", she added, cited in the press release.

The opening up to competition has already started in public transport in Ile-de-France, in the field of buses in the outer suburbs.

It should continue with the tram-trains and commuter trains operated by SNCF in the region, the arrival of new operators being expected in stages between 2023 and 2033.

The Epic RATP must lose its monopoly on December 31, 2024 for buses, on December 31, 2029 for trams until December 31, 2029, and on December 31, 2039 for subways and RER.

The operators of the future Grand Paris Express metro - the first sections of which are due to open around 2024/25 - must at the same time be appointed by the Ile-de-France Mobilités regional authority after a call for tenders.
