When the French remain cloistered at home, for reasons of confinement, it is good.

Motorists drive less, the number of accidents and claims is decreasing, insurers pay little… and individuals benefit from it, with rates similar to the previous year.

On average, individuals will have to pay 611 euros to insure their car in 2021, according to a study by Assurland, carried out in 2020 with drivers aged 18 and over, which compared 413,000 auto insurance rates that we unveil .

“The effects of the pandemic, and the drastic drop in claims, have enabled auto insurers to save more than 2 billion euros!

With the fierce competition in the sector, the vast majority have decided not to increase the membership fee.

Some have even taken actions, such as a free month for example, ”underlines Olivier Moustacakis, co-founder of the online comparator.

During the first confinement, the number of accidents fell by 75%, for example, and vehicle thefts 40%!

In detail, all-risk insurance, favored by 54% of drivers, amounts to 643 euros on average per year, against 590 euros for the coupling of the icebreaker, civil liability and theft / fire chosen by 18% of French, or 569 euros for civil liability alone, which is only taken out by 12% of motorists.

“The all-risk formula is reassuring for drivers, but above all corresponds to new vehicles.

It makes less sense in the case of old cars, ”emphasizes Olivier Moustacakis.

The French will have to pay a variable contribution, according to their age.

The prices go down as the person ages.

Young people, aged 18 to 25, will pay 1021 euros per year, on average.

That is almost twice the national average!

The reason is simple: the lack of experience.

To limit costs, young drivers should approach the insurer of their parents, to "increase their negotiating room", advises the co-founder of Assurland.com.

Better to drive a Dacia than a Tesla

From the age of 76, the insurance premium rises slightly.

Here again, according to an implacable logic, more affected by eye or hearing deficits, attention disorders, or likely to have more serious injuries in the event of shocks, they are statistically more at risk.

“Insurers are very basic.

They grind tons of statistics to determine a profile and the risks before modeling their price, ”says Olivier Moustacakis.

The inhabitants of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (664 euros), Ile-de-France (690 euros) or Corsica (732 euros) will thus pay the reputation and the risks linked to their region, where thefts and vandalism is more frequent, and the number of secure garages fewer than elsewhere.

The Bretons, they can continue to drive in all serenity with a much lower average price (508 euros).

Another logical element, the more expensive and rare the car, the more the price of insurance soars!

The risk of theft is higher and repairs in the event of an accident are expensive.

Thus, owners of a Tesla (1,021 euros), a Porsche (929 euros), a BMW (752 euros) or an Audi (743 euros) will pay a high contribution.

Conversely, very happy are those who drive a Dacia (451 euros), a Mitsubishi (498 euros) or a Suzuki (523 euros).
