Around 8:00 p.m. GMT (9:00 p.m. in Paris), the euro gave up 0.12% against the dollar, at $ 1.2143 per euro, after reaching a peak in one month at around 07:45 GMT, at $ 1.2180.

The dollar index, which compares the greenback to a basket of other major currencies, rose slightly (+ 0.16%).

Faced with members of the US Senate Banking Committee, Jerome Powell assured that the Fed would keep its rates low as long as inflation did not exceed 2% for the long term in the United States and that the American economy was not close to full employment .

According to the official, there is still a

"long way"

before these two objectives are achieved.

Vaccination campaign and caution

The British pound, for its part, was at the highest in nearly three years against the greenback, at 1.4106 dollars (+ 0.31%), after a peak at 1.4117 dollars.

Against the euro, the pound gained 0.42% to 86.08 pence, a high in almost a year.

The rapid vaccination campaign in the United Kingdom and the caution of the Bank of England (BoE) on negative rates have allowed the pound to return to its pre-pandemic levels.

Finally, bitcoin continued to fall.

From a high of $ 58,350.40 on Sunday, the best-known cryptocurrency tumbled more than 17% and traded at $ 44,425.00.
