"An operational error by the Federal Reserve has disrupted several services,"

a spokeswoman for the Fed told AFP.

"We are in the process of restoring the proper functioning of these services and communicating with all financial services clients of the Federal Reserve on the state of operations,"

she added.

The disturbances began this Wednesday late morning.

According to American media, it is the payment system linking the Fed to commercial banks that is affected.

The Federal Reserve is indeed the bank of banks.
