Gas: regulated prices increase on average by 5.7% in March

This is a cumulative effect of a rise in prices caused by a cold snap this winter in Asia and an increased use of European stocks.

Since January 1, 2019, regulated prices have fallen by 9.2% overall, and their level remains lower than in 2015, but in March, the gas prices applied by Engie will increase by 5.7% in average on March 1, announced this Friday the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) in a press release.

This increase is the consequence of the cumulative effect of a rise in prices caused by a cold snap this winter in Asia and an increased use of European stocks in January, detailed the regulator.

“5.9% for homes that heat with gas”

“This increase is 1.5% for customers who use gas for cooking, 3.4% for those who have dual use, cooking and hot water, and 5.9% for homes that heat themselves. gas, ”said the press release.

According to CRE, this increase in tariffs is explained by an increase in “market prices”, “supported this winter by strong global demand […] due to the cold snap on the Asian continent”.

"To this factor is added a strong demand on storage in Europe in January as well as the continued increase in oil prices", added the regulator.

The law provides for the gradual extinction by 2023 of regulated gas sales tariffs (TRV) for individuals.

They have already been removed for professional consumers since December 1.
