Madgalena Lepka and Julia Classen have been working together since 2013.

»We are currently spending a lot more time at home than before Corona.

The series is our visual commentary on the lockdown.

We miss meeting friends or just seeing other faces.

But it was important to us to describe the situation in a humorous way, «they say.

In the series »Making Friends« the friends come to our home, or more precisely: They have always been there.

"A change in perspective brought things to life around us," says Lepka.

Before they even started the project, Magdalena Lepka and Julia Claasen had been sending each other pictures of faces back and forth: “For a while, it was actually such a trick to keep taking cell phone photos of a funny face to each other send.

Then we definitely had to do it. "

It's about changing the way you look at home, countering the everyday with something new and friendly.

Even if this face (will you discover it?) Is less associated with friendliness.

»Objects are generally the protagonists in our work.

Because of the long time at home, this also happened with my own things.

They started looking at us, ”says Classen.

Sometimes it is worth taking a second look because the faces may not be immediately recognizable at first glance.

»We like to play with the viewer's perception.

There is always something to discover, even within your own four walls, «says Lepka.

But it is also about fighting loneliness and monotony at home.

The series leads us viewers through the various, constantly repeating stations of everyday life;

So washing clothes, working at the desk, straining pasta.

And when the moment comes when sitting at your desk at home becomes unbearable, it doesn't hurt to get up briefly and discover something new in a place that seems so familiar to us - in the best case, a friendly face.

The series is over for now, but both of them are still sending cellphone pictures back and forth.

“I took another cell phone picture today.

A lamp that suddenly looked at me and I thought we'd have to tackle it too, ”says Classen.

Until there is a continuation of the project, however, it is worth taking a closer look at your own apartment.

You may also discover a friendly face where you would least have expected it.
