The writer MacKenzie Scott has remarried.
Her husband is Dan Jewett, a Seattle school teacher.
The couple made the wedding public in a letter to the Giving Pledge organization.
MacKenzie Scott was married to Jeff Bezos for 25 years, was one of the first employees of his Amazon group, and during this time he helped set up the mail order company.
In 2019 the couple separated.
With the divorce, Scott received four percent of Amazon's shares, then valued at around $ 38 billion.
She has announced that she will donate the majority of the assets to charitable organizations.
She signed the "Giving Pledge," a "pledge to donate," in which numerous billionaires participate.
Scott's husband, Jewett, said he was grateful to be part of "doing so much good." Jewett teaches chemistry at a private school that Scott's children attend.
He was happy to be with "the most generous and considerate person I know - and to commit with her to pass on enormous financial wealth to serve others."
She always avoided the headlights
MacKenzie Scott initially donated approximately $ 1.7 billion to 116 nonprofits and universities.
In 2020 she announced that she would increase the pace of donations and above all focus on groups that were particularly hard hit by the pandemic.
$ 5.7 billion went to more than 500 associations and initiatives, including
boards called
food banks
in the USA
, aid organizations and charities that campaign for equality
among
ethnic minorities.
MacKenzie Scott has been closely following Amazon's rise - even if she always avoided the spotlight.
When Bezos started the company in a garage in Seattle, she was one of the first employees.
At that time she took care of the accounting, among other things.
In 2006 she won the American Book Award as a writer.
