After the compliance proceedings against »Bild« editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt became known, the Executive Board of the Springer Group addressed the employees in a joint statement.

"Julian Reichelt denies the allegations," write Mathias Döpfner and Jan Bayer.

Nevertheless, the executives promise a speedy clarification of the matter.

As SPIEGEL reported on Monday, around half a dozen employees reported incidents to the media company in recent years.

Among other things, the investigation deals with the abuse of power and the exploitation of relationships of dependency.

In individual cases, Reichelt should face possible allegations of coercion and bullying, as reported by several people who are familiar with the matter.

"We know that the current media coverage of a compliance investigation at BILD is very preoccupying and worrying for many of you," said the management board's announcement.

“But we want you to know that we are doing everything we can to clarify quickly and carefully at the same time.

It is important to us that we ensure independent clarification.

That's why we called in external experts to investigate the allegations. "

»No form of prejudice allow«

At the same time, Döpfner and Bayer recall the presumption of innocence.

The investigation has not yet been completed and no result has been obtained so far, either in one or the other direction.

»Please believe us, we too want as much transparency as possible.

We want everyone to be able to point out possible grievances and misconduct without fear.

But we will not allow any form of prejudice. «All employees, regardless of their function and position, deserve protection and care in equal measure.

According to SPIEGEL information, Julian Reichelt had already asserted his innocence to his editors at the morning editorial conference: "The accusation is wrong."

Fortunately, this is not the first day in his life that he does not know how he will end, said Reichelt accordingly.

“That's why I think it gives me the serenity I need to go through it with my head held high.

Everything I've done in my life I've always done for this shop and for the people here, ”says Reichelt.
