While laboratories are struggling to ramp up, the German Merck will spend 25 million euros to create a new production unit in its Alsatian factory in Molsheim.
This site, one of Merck's 8 in France, supplies the main vaccine manufacturers.

On this site, which employs 1,650 people, 350 jobs will be created, including 80 by the end of the year.
The announcement was made with great fanfare on Wednesday in the presence of the Minister for Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, on the front line on vaccines, and Thierry Breton, European Commissioner, who heads the task force on the production of vaccines in Brussels.
If Merck is not a manufacturer of vaccines, it participates in the shadows in the efforts of manufacturers by producing raw materials, lipids and other equipment essential for their manufacture.
