While the French are passionate about gardening and DIY, the prices of these so-called outdoor products tend to increase with the arrival of sunny days and spring, according to the online comparator LeDénicheur.
Prices increase from April
If for the moment, "the prices are still stable, they increase significantly at the end of March, at the beginning of April", indicates Romain Gavache, France director of the site leDénicheur, who in particular analyzed the price variations in three categories (barbecue, lawn mowers , brush cutter).
Thus, last year, between March 1 and April 10, the "price index" increased by 7.44% for barbecues, 7.12% for mowers and 5.89% for brush cutters. .
"By way of comparison, and to give an idea of what it can give in terms of increase, during Black Friday, the decrease observed in this index is of the order of 3 to 4%", he specifies .
And even if 2020 was a special year in which garden equipment was very popular, “whatever happens, the seasonality remains very strong on these products,” he continues.
In question, obviously, the demand which increases as soon as the sun and the sweetness return.
“In the bundle, there may be a few opportunistic sellers who inflate the rates.
But it is mainly because, little by little, consumers will buy the most competitive products in terms of price.
And over the days, weeks, only the most expensive will remain, ”he emphasizes.
Remember to compare
In this context, the first instinct to have is to compare the offers between stores or sites before buying.
Sometimes the differences on the labels are huge.
Thus, the Weber Master-Touch E-5750 charcoal barbecue, the most popular product on LeDénicheur in its category, was available for sale Tuesday at 279 euros on Jardideco against 329 euros on Esprit Barbecue and Barbecue & Co, and 329.99 euros at Darty.
For fans of the gas barbecue, the Weber Genesis II E-310 GBS, also the most popular in its category, is at 899 euros on Jardideco, 899.99 euros on Darty, but at 990.44 euros on Rakuten and 1,049 euros at Gamm vert, still according to the prices recorded by the online comparator, Tuesday.
As for the Alpina Garden BL 460 SB mower, it costs 199.99 euros on the Cdiscount site (239.97 euros with delivery) and ... 474.85 euros on the Darty marketplace!

Admittedly, most of the brochures dedicated to gardening from brands, specialists or supermarkets, with interesting promotions in the lot, related to offers valid in February or until mid-March.
