Despite the announcement of exceptional 2020 results, the pursuit of its investments abroad and the upgrading of its shareholder policy, Carrefour management continues to question the social status and working conditions of its employees

", deplores in a press release the 2nd union (25%) of the group.

The compulsory annual negotiations for salary increases, which the management of the distribution giant reopened a few weeks ago, recently ended with failure, the group offering no better than between 0.9% and 1% increase, according to Sylvain Macé, French group union representative (CFDT).

According to him, the social climate in the company is currently so tense that the movement "

should be followed

".

Locally, FO (40%) or the CGT (20%) could join the CFDT.

It particularly wants "

the end of the passage of stores in rental management in 2021

", "

the return to decent working conditions

" or "

the revaluation of the salary scales and the payment of the Macron bonus

".

The organization denounces the establishment three years ago of a "

brutal and unsustainable plan

" which led to the elimination of 12,000 jobs in France.

Approached at the beginning of January by the Canadian Couche-Tard for a merger which could not succeed due to a veto from the French government, Carrefour, valued more than 16 billion euros excluding debt, indicated in mid-February that its sales had increased by 7.8% in 2020. According to the group, which announced the return of the payment of a cash dividend, these are its best results "

for at least 20 years

".

Carrefour employees have been heavily exposed and in demand since the start of the health crisis.

They deserve a commensurate remuneration, decent working conditions and not to be thrown into the pasture of buyers,

”continues the CFDT.

In mid-March, the government announced the payment of a “

Macron bonus

” tax-free and exempt from social contributions of a maximum amount of 1,000 euros for low wages, in particular “

second line

” workers in mass distribution, particularly exposed during the pandemic.
