You will not believe how much you suckers: demand your money back

Many despair and throw in the trash glass bottles, cans and small plastic bottles marked with a deposit because we are tired of looking for a place that will accept them and give us back our money.

But did you know that you can return them to any business that sells you such tools?

Here's everything you need to know in order not to come out suckers

Enough to be suckers and give up your money!

Deliveries have become an integral part of our lives over the past year, while restaurants have remained closed.

With these shipments, for those of you who order a drink, also come glass bottles, cans or small plastic bottles (usually half a liter) marked with a deposit.

Do not just throw them in the trash!

When we finish drinking, the container is left empty and most of us just get rid of it.

In most cases, the thought of recycling the same drinking container does not cross my mind and it's a shame, because we just go out suckers.

And if there is one thing Israelis hate - it is to be a sucker.

After all, from the beginning, the deposit that is taken from you on these drinking containers, which has a volume greater than 0.1 liters and less than a liter and a half, is your money and it should return to you.

Is a deposit and is included in the price you paid.

There is nothing simpler than that, and if you return these drinking containers, you will get your money back.

But is it complicated to recycle these containers?

The answer is much simpler than you imagined and here are some questions and answers that you just have to know.

First, what does the Deposit Law in Israel say?

The deposit law applies to small beverage containers.

By law, the minimum amount a manufacturer or importer is allowed to take as a deposit on these containers is 30 cents, per container.

The deposit fee is included in the price of the drink, in order to encourage you to return the empty containers for recycling instead of just throwing them in the trash.

So where can I recycle the beverage containers in question, marked with a deposit?

Here most of us fall, because apparently you also did not know that the beverage containers, if they are empty and marked with the words "must deposit", you are allowed to return anywhere that also sells them.

Yes, even if you did not buy the same container from the same business.

Wait, what is "everywhere"?

According to Israeli law, a business that sells beverage containers filled with a deposit is also obligated to receive such back from a consumer who wishes to return them.

This of course includes supermarkets, but also containers, explosives and even convenience stores.

These places must not refuse to return your money to you and they must not limit the hours of receipt of the containers to certain hours or days.

If the place is open and working, and goes into the settings, he must take the containers and return your money to you!

And if they still refuse?

In case a business creates difficulties and is not willing to accept the empty and marked beverage containers from you, you have several options:

1) Report to the Ministry of Environmental Protection by phone 073-2733351 or by email pniot@sviva.gov.il

2) You can also file a lawsuit against the business Civil in the Small Claims Court or alternatively, apply to the Consumer Council

How do I get my deposit back?

We will emphasize this again - this is your money.

Therefore, the business can offer you a cash credit for the deposit fee (say, if you just bought at the supermarket, it can come down from your payment).

However, if you refused to accept the deposit, you deserve cash.

The business must not say "no" to you in such a situation.

What else is worth knowing?

1) Every day (!) Each person is allowed to return to one business up to 50 beverage containers that are subject to a deposit.

Do the quick calculation of 30 agorot (minimum) double 50 containers and you will reach 15 shekels, per day.

Quite a bit of money that just goes out of our pocket and does not come back, if we do not recycle.

Of course if you have more than 50 containers, you do not need to store them at home.

You can go to several businesses that day, or come with someone else to a single business, and return a double amount of containers.

2) Businesses are not obliged by law to accept empty beverage containers from you only in the following cases:

- The container is sold for consumption in the business areas (a glass bottle that you drink in a cafe, let's say) and no deposit is charged

- A company is not obligated to accept empty beverage containers that were not purchased from it

- a business is not obligated to return a deposit if it does not market the full beverage containers of the same manufacturer or importer

Finally ...

All you have to do is pick them up and return to one of the businesses mentioned here.

Alternatively, you can also return them to one of the municipal stations operated by the EL recycling corporation and receive the deposit instead. In addition, EL voluntarily operates channels that can collect a large quantity of beverage containers at once.

So enough to be suckers!

It's your money and it's time you got it back, no?
