Between decline and stability, the prices of some commodities and basic materials ranged in the Damascus market this week, according to a price bulletin issued by the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, which recorded a decrease in the prices of items including sugar, rice and tea, while the prices of oil, ghee, pasta and flour stabilized.

By a simple comparison between the prices of materials at the end of last March and yesterday, Monday, the price bulletin, which SANA received a copy, showed a decrease of some between 100 and 2000 pounds and stability of others, while noting that the high costs of transporting goods caused the increase in some prices.

SANA's camera monitored the reality of the markets in Aisha River and Bab Sereija, where Hussam Al-Khawaja, while shopping from the Syrian Trade Center in the Aisha River, indicated that he noticed a slight decrease in the prices of cleaning materials, food and basic commodities, especially sugar and rice, where the decrease ranged between 500 and 1000 pounds compared to last week.

And through his constant hesitation to the Bab Suraija market to buy his needs, Nasser Kaddoura noticed a clear drop in prices, as he put it, especially the prices of obesity and oil. Alaa Al-Masry, the owner of one of the shops in the market, mentioned that the price of a liter of soy oil and sunflower ranged between 8,500 and 8700 pounds, which is lower than last week. At about 800 liras.

As for the price of a kilo of wrapped sugar, 2,200 pounds without packaging, 2,100 pounds, down from 400 to 600 pounds last week, according to Al-Masry, who pointed out that the fuel crisis had an impact on the price of all goods due to the high costs of transporting them.

Haytham al-Hajj, the owner of a chicken shop in Bab Suraija market, pointed out that the price of meat increased slightly due to the effect of the fuel crisis on its transportation from slaughterhouses to commercial stores, which affected the citizen's purchasing power.

While Umm Ahmad saw that the shopkeepers ’argument to raise their prices is always ready, either to change the exchange rate or to increase the costs of transporting materials, hoping to make greater efforts and tighten control by those concerned to reduce prices, especially with the approaching month of Ramadan.

The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection set the prices of some foodstuffs and commodities yesterday as follows: 1 kilo of sugar for 2100 liras, Chinese rice for 2700 liras, Pico tea for 23,000 liras, sardines 1500, tahini 8700, pasta 2900 liras, flour 1800 liras, Spanish rice 4000 liras, sunflower oil 9000 liras and soy oil 8700 vegetable margarine 9000 liras.
