Almost 1.1 million people received basic security benefits for old age and disability in December 2020.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, that was almost 14,000 or 1.3 percent more beneficiaries than in December 2019.

People who are permanently fully disabled or who cannot secure their livelihood from their own income and assets in old age are entitled to basic security.

51.3 percent of the recipients received basic security in old age, reports the authority.

The remaining 48.7 percent of recipients of basic security were between the ages of 18 and below the retirement age.

They received the benefit due to permanent full disability - if, for example, due to illness or disability, they could not work three hours a day under the usual conditions of the general labor market for an unforeseeable period of time.
