Puzzle of the week: a king on the run

2021-04-18T16:18:32.572Z

A knight in one corner, the king in the other. According to the usual rules of the game, the knight chases the king. Will he hit him?

You don't have to be a good chess player to complete this week's task.

The riddle comes from my new book "Blind Date with Two Unknowns": A knight chases a king.

Both pieces move according to the usual rules of chess.

See the full description and amazing solution in the video below.

An addendum to the carpet puzzle from last week: The reader Bernhard Klaaßen has suggested a solution that works differently than the sawtooth cut described.

One can argue about whether it actually does the job, but it is definitely quite nifty, as you can read in the supplemented solution.

If you missed a puzzle from the past few weeks, here are the ten most recent episodes:

  • The carpet repair

  • Brand diversity at Swiss Post

  • Is Dieter the thief?

  • One circle, two points

  • Guess the numbers - but clever

  • The legendary great-aunt

  • Cleaning orgy in the restaurant kitchen

  • A triangle the size of the earth

  • Looking for a spaghetti triangle

  • Patchwork in the square
