The Indec reported this Thursday that the economy
contracted 2.6% in February
compared to the same month last year.
It also fell 1% compared to January.
Thus, the monthly economic activity estimator (EMAE) accumulates a 2.4% drop in the first two months of the year, after the drop of 2.2% last month.
According to the report, the greatest contraction occurred in the
Hotels and Restaurants sector
, with a fall of 38.2% year-on-year.
It continues like this with its march since last March: affected by the coronavirus pandemic, it has not registered a year-on-year improvement since February 2020. In any case, it extended its slowdown (in January it had fallen 38.4%, against 48.5% of December).
Other services activities followed, with a decrease of 17.7%, and
Transport and Communications,
with 15.6% (same record as last January, the smallest year-on-year drop in twelve months).

The
other economic sectors
with year-on-year decline in activity are: Mines and Quarries (9.8%), Electricity, Gas and Water (8.7%), Public Administration (5.4%), Education (3.3%) and Health (0.7%).
For its part,
Construction
experienced an improvement of 11.7% year-on-year.
Financial Intermediation (3.5%), Commerce (3.4%), Industry (1.6%), Agriculture (0.7%) and Real Estate, business and rental activities (1%) also grew. .
Taxes fell 1.6% year-on-year, for which they accumulate 16 months of decline, indicated from the Indec.
