Cash receipts on file show that these bakeries were open every day for at least a week, while they "

do not justify any difficulty they would have encountered in closing one day of the week

", underlines the Court of Appeal of the First Civil Chamber of Riom (Puy-de-Dôme) in its judgment consulted by AFP. The six brands are therefore ordered to each pay 1,000 euros to the CGT Commerce of Puy-de-Dôme and the CGT departmental union, specifies the Court, which rejected the union's requests for seven other establishments.

The sanctions are not dissuasive.

The scheduled penalty of 1,000 euros per day has increased to 1,000 euros per sign.

We are not satisfied with this and are considering a new procedure,

”said Dominique Holle, CGT Commerce representative from Puy-de-Dôme.

The Clermont-Ferrand tribunal de grande instance ordered in March 2019 a weekly closing day for twenty-five department stores selling bread seven days a week and summoned by the CGT union, under penalty of a fine of 1,000. euros per day of delay. Despite the confirmation of this decision on appeal, some bakeries refused to comply. The CGT then again summoned the recalcitrant bakeries in order to apply the periodic penalty payments.
