The Federation of Taxpayers (BdSt) calls on Angela Merkel (CDU) to do something about mass promotions in federal ministries.

"The Chancellor must stop the planned promotions immediately," said Association President Reiner Holznagel, told the "Bild" newspaper.

According to several reports, numerous ministers are planning promotions in the months leading up to the federal election and have had new posts approved in the 2021 budget.

According to "Münchner Merkur", 71 top promotions are planned in the ministries.

In addition, according to the "Bild" newspaper, there are more than a hundred civil servants in lower hierarchical positions.

In view of the "epochal crisis" and the associated national debt, "there is no explanation for the actions of individual ministers to promote loyal officials now," said Holznagel.

The deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group, Christian Dürr, also criticized the planned wave of promotions: "With hundreds of new jobs and promotions, the GroKo mocks all the employees and self-employed who fear for their existence in the crisis," said the "Bild" - Newspaper.

The federal government must "really ask itself whether an economic crisis is the right time for such job clashing."
