The absence of a prescription to vaccinate 18-54 year olds suffering from chronic diseases is "

common sense

", justified this Tuesday the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, saying not to fear a "

circumvention

" by the rest of population.

"

I could have asked 4 million French adults, young people, suffering from chronic diseases, to go to their doctor, to traffic congestion in the medical offices in barely of epidemic wave, to ask them for a certificate according to which they would have a disease

", a argued the Minister on Europe 1, saying he preferred to “

trust

”. “

There may be workaround strategies, but it will be on the margins,

” he said, asked whether in practice, the vaccination against Covid-19 was now open to all. "

We always prioritize the people who are most at risk of having serious forms

," said the minister, while justifying "

the choice of pragmatism

","

Which allows us to vaccinate quickly and strongly

".

The government announced on Friday the opening of vaccination to all adults with certain chronic diseases exposing them to an increased risk of developing a severe form of Covid, which was previously the case only for those over 50 years.

This particularly concerns obese people, those suffering from serious cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, respiratory diseases, psychiatric disorders or Parkinson's disease.

The Ministry of Health specified that the appointment would be made "

upon declaration

" of these comorbidities and that no medical prescription would be required, a mechanism which was already in force for the over 50s concerned. 16.1 million French people have already received at least one dose of vaccine, of which 6.7 million are fully vaccinated, with two doses.
