Felt pen king Carl-Wilhelm Edding is dead. The co-founder of the stationery manufacturer of the same name died on April 27 in Hamburg at the age of 90, the company announced on Friday in Ahrensburg.
"We thank you for everything you have left us and will continue to cherish your name, but above all your values, with pride and a great sense of responsibility!" Said the company's obituary.
Edding founded the company in 1960 together with his school friend Volker D. Ledermann in Hamburg.
In 1986 he left the company.
Edding, based in Ahrensburg in Schleswig-Holstein, is best known for its felt-tip pens and permanent markers.
The company, which now operates as an AG, has continuously expanded its portfolio over the years.
A separate area for tattoos was recently founded, including Edding's own tattoo studio in Hamburg.
This has not helped the business so far: Edding recently generated sales of 125.7 million euros.
In 2019 it was over 140 million euros.
