Flight portals must display the correct final price

At first the ticket looks like a bargain, but when you pay it suddenly costs more. A court has now put a stop to this practice of an air travel portal.

Actually, the rules are clear: Anyone who books a flight ticket on the Internet must not be lured with unrealistic prices, but must always be shown the final price.

But not every provider adheres to it.

This is shown by a ruling by the Leipzig Regional Court, which the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (vzvb) draws attention to.

The consumer advocates were the plaintiffs in these proceedings. In this case, users were shown a flight price on the portal's website that was valid when paying with a specific credit card. According to a notice marked with an asterisk, a discount of 14.99 euros was included. However, if the traveler opted for another common credit card at the end of the booking, the final price would increase by 14.99 euros.

The vzbv criticized misleading price information and a violation of the EU regulation on price transparency for flight bookings.

Accordingly, the correct final price must be stated at the beginning of the booking process - including all taxes, fees and other unavoidable costs.

And the district court agreed with the plaintiff: The reference to the fact that the displayed price contains a special discount is not sufficient.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
