Greenpeace activists stole hundreds of car keys from Volkswagen Group vehicles and brought them to the Zugspitze.
According to the police, officers secured several bags full of keys during a protest on the Schneeferner Glacier.
The action was peaceful.
The environmental organization criticizes VW for switching to electromobility too slowly.
She chose the Schneeerner Glacier because it is particularly hard hit by climate change.
On Wednesday morning, Greenpeace activists withdrew the keys from vehicles in Emden near the VW plant.
The cars were left unlocked for export in the Emden base port, which the group uses to handle cars.
Activists spread a yellow banner with an oil-smeared VW logo over some cars.
Greenpeace traffic expert Benjamin Stephan said that the company was “going green”, but last year it mainly shipped combustion cars via Emden.
"We don't need any more climate killers from Wolfsburg, the world doesn't need them, we need a quick switch to electromobility."
Police are investigating Leer
The Leer police are investigating trespassing and particularly serious theft, they did not give details.
Greenpeace only wants the keys "borrowed".
According to Greenpeace, the keys seized by the police on the Zugspitze are all stolen in Emden.
Accordingly, there are around 1500 pieces, the police and VW did not comment on the number on Friday.
On Wednesday, the police had spoken of an estimated 300 to 400 keys.
VW did not go into more detail about the action in a statement, but emphasized that it was "open to critical dialogue".
According to a spokeswoman, the group has not made a report.
The action on the Zugspitze is rated by the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police as an unauthorized gathering.
