The Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaym, discussed today with the Iraqi Minister of Industry Manhal Aziz Al-Khabbaz, ways to enhance bilateral relations in the transport sector and mechanisms for developing trade exchange between the two countries.
During a meeting of the two sides at the Ministry of Transport in Damascus, the participants discussed mechanisms of mutual coordination, the reality of the joint Syrian-Iraqi company, and the importance of facilitating the work of drivers and trucks and the smooth and easy transportation of goods between the two countries.
Minister Khuzaym reviewed the most important developments and works that have been accomplished after the systematic sabotage caused by terrorist organizations to many requirements and equipment of the transport sector, especially railways, road networks and airports, stressing the importance of linking land, rail and air transport lines between the two countries to facilitate the work of drivers, transit and freight forwarding.
The Minister of Transport pointed to the need to intensify cooperation and joint communication to promote development and the economy to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
In turn, Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh spoke about the necessity of advancing and developing relations between the two countries in the field of industry, transport and trade exchange, especially in the next stage, as it requires an additional effort for the interest of both countries.
The Iraqi Minister of Industry confirmed that the delegation's visit to Syria does not focus on issues related to industry only, but its main and major goal is to build bridges and economic ties between the two countries, stressing the need to move forward to expand cooperation in various fields, especially the transport sectors.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Transport Ammar Kamal El-Din, Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi and a number of directors of the Ministry of Transport directorates.
