TheFork, TripAdvisor's global online booking platform, is
leaving Argentina and other Latin American countries
.
The international brand had bought Restorando in 2019, a regional startup that was born in the country.
In addition, it leaves Chile and Brazil.
The recess will be at the end of October.
In a massive statement sent to its users, TheFork states:
"We have decided to
stop our activities in Argentina from October 31"
.
"The closure in Argentina has been a difficult decision, but the Covid pandemic has had a sudden and important impact on the global economy, and this sector has not been the exception," continues the email sent to its clients.

Finally, the brief message concludes: "For all this,
as of November 1, neither TheFork website nor the application will be available

In Latin America, TheFork also has operations in Mexico, Peru and Colombia.
Globally, the international company has
more than 65,000 restaurants in 17 countries.
At the end of February 2019, TheFork acquired
Restorando, an online reservation platform that had been created by two Argentines in 2011
and that had managed to expand throughout Latin America.
Restorando was founded by Frank Martín and Franco Silvetti, two Argentines who met while studying industrial engineering at the university.
It had operations in 7 countries and was based in Buenos Aires with offices in São Paulo, Chile, Bogotá and Mexico City.

Other large companies that left the country: the pharmaceutical company Lilly, the supermarket chain Walmart, the Chilean Falabella and the airline Latam.
The airlines Air New Zealand, Emirates and Qatar Airways also stopped operating.
In addition, they stopped operating or reduced their presence locally: Norwegian, BASF, Axalta, PPG, Pierre Fabré, Saint Gobain Sekurit, Under Armor, Gerresheimer, Brighstar, Glovo and Asics.
