The federal government has spent around 1.2 million euros on developing the Autobahn app, which has been available for three weeks. These costs were incurred "for the commissioning of external services," said the Federal Ministry of Transport in its answer to a parliamentary question. The transport policy spokesman for the Green Group, Stefan Gelbhaar, spoke on Thursday of a million dollar bankruptcy: "More than a million euros for an app without any added value - that's a farce and thus a case for the Court of Auditors."

The new service app from the state-owned motorway company is intended to provide drivers with information on roadworks, diversions or accident sites via smartphones.

In the week after it was published, it was downloaded around 180,000 times, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Due to the inadequate content and lack of navigation functions, it gets an extremely poor user rating in the Google Play Store with an average of 2.2 out of 5 points.
