The entrepreneur Lars Windhorst joined the Hertha BSC football club in 2019, but the Bundesliga club had to wait a long time for the money.

Now the investor wants to have transferred the last million installment to the club.

Windhorst announced this on Twitter.

"I have invested 375 million euros in the club since 2019," wrote Windhorst: "I stand by my word - and will continue to stand by the Herthaners in the future." The dpa news agency also reports, citing an unspecified source, that the outstanding money had been transferred.

Since 2019, Windhorst would have paid the contractually agreed around 375 million euros to Hertha.

The sports director Fredi Bobic could not confirm the receipt of the payment early on Friday afternoon.

You don't expect receipt until the beginning of the week.

The investor money does not currently offer any leeway for possible transfers, which are still possible in the Bundesliga until August 31.

"Certainly not," said Bobic when asked.

Bobic had already said during the summer break that he was expecting a "hot transfer market" in August - and the club could use the Windhorst millions for that.

Hertha in the Champions League?

Hertha had to act “creatively” and “quickly”, said Bobic two days before the season opener in the Bundesliga at 1. FC Köln.

"The market is still very tough," said the 49-year-old.

So far, Hertha BSC has signed four new players in Kevin-Prince Boateng, Suat Serdar, Stevan Jovetic and Marco Richter.

In the past few months there had been repeated reports of problems processing payments by Windhorst's Tennor Group.

These were rejected by both the investor and Hertha BSC, but intermittent communication problems in the cooperation were admitted.

The entrepreneur holds 66.6 percent of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA through his investment.

In the long term, the 44-year-old would like to use his financial resources to lead Hertha into the Champions League and to establish the capital city club as an international brand.

The term he coined, the Big City Club, had also led to controversial discussions within the club.
