An après-ski innkeeper from Austria and his mother have been sentenced to heavy fines by the Salzburg Regional Court for tax evasion amounting to around 3.2 million euros.
The host's mother received a fine of 1.3 million euros and the son was fined 1.2 million euros.
Half of the sum was suspended on probation.
The defendants confessed.
In addition, they have already paid the additional tax claim.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The court was convinced that the two restaurateurs had literally hoarded the black money.
House searches in 2019 discovered 2.8 million euros on 206 savings books and 780,000 euros in cash.
In the closet of the local operator, the investigators found 34,500 euros in the pockets of a jacket.
The accused referred to the sum as his pocket money.
In the high season, the defendants put up to three savings books with a deposit of almost 15,000 euros each.
