Every year, the owners of the olive groves spread over large areas in Tartous governorate gather their crop, which divides its production between oil and pickling according to each family’s need, while others sell the surplus and use it as a source of livelihood for families.
The governorate’s production of oil decreased this year compared to previous years, according to Mehran Khaunda, the owner of the largest modern mills in the governorate in Baniyas and its countryside, but it is distributed unevenly, as it started to be excellent in Baniyas and its countryside, while the pregnancy rate did not exceed 15 and 25 percent in the Akkar Plain areas.
Ratib Ibrahim, a member of the Executive Office of the Agriculture Sector in Tartous Governorate, explained that the estimates of the olive season for this season are about 50 thousand tons of olives, which is less than the previous seasons, due to the high temperatures and the lack of rain during the flowering period and the decade, which is almost below average, indicating that the estimates of oil production are about 8800 tons.
With regard to the governorate’s role in setting the prices of the olive press, Ibrahim said that the governorate has set a price for the owners of olive presses, and it has been announced and circulated to them, and its work is monitored by a specialized committee from the environment, agriculture, industry, supply and all concerned authorities to monitor it properly so as not to oppress the farmer, and the results of the era and its quality are very good, adding It is also monitored the disposal of olive-press waste and transported to safe places to prevent contamination of drinking water and others.
