Thanks to the profits made over the past twelve months, Moderna is boosting its production facilities and expanding its geographic footprint.
The American biotech will invest up to $ 500 million in the construction of a factory in Africa.
This new site, which will have an annual production capacity of 500 million doses, should be operational within two to four years.
The choice of country has not yet been made.
The factory aims to serve the countries of the region with anti-Covid vaccines, but not only.
The American biotech has, in fact, 20 vaccines in clinical development from its platform centered around messenger RNA, including influenza or cytomegalovirus infection, dangerous for pregnant women and their babies.
