The failure of Auchan's takeover bid for Carrefour, revealed last weekend, agitated protagonists and other food distribution players throughout the week.
And for good reason.
This is the third time in five years that a marriage has stumbled.
In 2016, Système U and Auchan were about to unite, but the northern distributor gave up at the foot of the altar.
In September 2018, talks for a marriage between Carrefour and Casino, initiated by Alain Minc, were halted, leaving the two camps bitter, in particular Carrefour, which dreamed of an acquisition.

If so many combinations have been considered, it is because the sector is not easy.
