The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform granted 6 licenses to establish marine fish farms on the shores of the Syrian coast.
The Director General of the General Authority for Fisheries and Aquatic Biology, Dr. Abdul Latif Ali, said in a statement to SANA that the authority has granted 6 initial approvals for marine fish farm projects to be established on the Syrian coast, three of which are free-floating farms in the sea and three onshore.
Ali indicated that one of the investors has started implementing a project south of Jableh city, which extends over an area of 18 dunums as beach basins and 15 dunums as floating cages in the sea, with a production capacity of 400 tons annually of brine and Buraq fish within the intensive breeding system in which the productivity of one cubic meter of water ranges. From 25 to 30 kg.
Ali indicated that the Ministry of Agriculture provided the necessary facilities for the success of such projects, including facilitating the import of cages, nets and equipment necessary for the farm, in addition to importing its need of fingerlings and fodder. specific controls.
Ali stressed that these projects contribute to raising the per capita share of fish in Syria, creating new job opportunities and revitalizing many sectors related to its work such as transportation, marketing, manufacturing and restaurants, and contributing to supporting food security and increasing local fish production in general.
Ali pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture seeks to develop the fisheries sector in Syria by supporting and encouraging fish farming in marine and fresh waters and moving towards intensive fish farming as the solution to increasing the local fish production, according to what was included in the outputs of the Agricultural Sector Development Forum in this field.
