Losses linked to Covid-19: eight in ten restaurateurs accept AXA's compensation for containment

The insurer AXA had been singled out for compensation for restaurateurs during periods of confinement.

To close, this controversy the insurer had put 300 million euros on the table to find an amicable solution for some 15,000 restaurateurs holding its standard contract including an extension of cover for operating losses following a closure administrative.

Clearly, Axa's goal was to avoid legal battles as much as possible.

At the end of the deadline of November 15, 80% of restaurateurs responded positively.

Customers were offered a sum equivalent to 15% of the turnover of their catering activity during the closures between March and October 2020.

On the other hand, the group did not communicate on the number of disputes in progress.

This summer, AXA recognized some 1,500 disputes involving nearly 15,600 affected customers.

On existing disputes, the legal interpretation varies according to the Courts of Appeal.

Some have spoken sometimes in favor of AXA, sometimes in favor of restaurateurs ... To wait for a case law, we will have to wait for a decision of the Court of Cassation, but which should not take place before next year.
