Al-Hasakah-SANA
The areas planted with lentils in Al-Hasakah governorate for the current winter season have reached 800 hectares, concentrated in the first and second agricultural settlement areas.
The head of the Department of Plant Production in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Jalal Bilal, told SANA reporter that the cultivation of the lentil crop began at the beginning of this month, as it usually continues until the end of next month, pointing out that lentils are among the leguminous crops that farmers accept due to low production costs, as the majority of the area is planted. It is distributed in various areas of agricultural stability, and the production is marketed in the local markets in the governorate.
According to the Directorate of Agriculture, the area planned to be planted with the lentil crop for the current season is approximately 60 thousand hectares, of which 55 thousand and 500 hectares are rainfed and 4200 hectares are irrigated.
