Black Friday is the big day of the bargain hunters - and a thorn in the side of climate protectors. Activists from Extinction Rebellion demonstrate in front of 15 of the group's locations in Europe under the motto »#BlockFriday«.

Activists from the Extinction Rebellion group are currently blocking several Amazon locations in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

A total of 15 logistics centers are affected by the protest, as the group announced on Twitter.

The blockades are taking place in Bad Hersfeld, among other places, where the group has built a tall structure called the "Crazy Pod", which, according to the activists, is difficult to clear without endangering the people inside.

The police are now on site.

Several people have already been arrested in Manchester, UK.

The time of the campaign was not chosen by chance: Black Friday is considered the biggest shopping day of the year.

"#BlackFriday is a #BlockFriday today," wrote representatives of Extinction Rebellion Germany on Twitter.

Amazon's business model is based “on the exploitation of people and the environment, manipulation and greenwashing.” Among other things, the group points to the Group's high CO₂ emissions.

The actions of Extinction Rebellion are controversial, the group is considered radical.

Activists time and again put themselves in danger in order to draw attention to the climate crisis, for example, when sitting in blockade, their hands are stuck to the floor or to each other with superglue.

Last October, members of Extinction Rebellion hijacked the Eiffel Tower in Paris and hung a banner reading "Rebel" there.

Under the motto "Make Amazon Pay" ("Let Amazon Pay"), the company is not only criticized by activists.

Group employees also took part in protests.

On Thursday, the workforce began warning strikes at several locations, according to a spokeswoman for the Ver.di union.

In Bad Hersfeld, in Rheinberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, in Koblenz and Graben near Augsburg, work was partially stopped.

Workers in other countries also joined the strikes.

When asked by the Reuters news agency, Amazon did not want to comment on the protest actions.

According to the group, customers would not feel the effects of the employee's strike.
