France and Italy signed on Friday in Rome a bilateral enhanced cooperation treaty intended to consolidate a relationship that has been tested in recent years by a diplomatic quarrel.

The treaty was initialed at 9:00 a.m. (08:00 GMT) at the Quirinal Presidential Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron and Head of Government Mario Draghi, in the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
