The idea of ​​Uber germinated in Paris, one snowy evening in December 2008, when its two founders, after an internet conference, had failed to find a taxi.

A few months later, in March 2009, they launched their app in San Francisco.

It is now present in more than 10,000 cities around the world.

Uber claims 5 million customers in France in 2021, in a statement released on Sunday.

The highest number of journeys made in one day on Uber was 301,337.

It was New Year's Eve on December 31, 2019.

The longest race was 1,129 km: the client, who left Marseille, joined Plumieux, in Brittany, on May 30, 2020, shortly after the lifting of the first confinement.

The race cost him 1,607.91 euros.

Uber does not say if it left a tip.

30,000 drivers currently in France

The application, launched on December 5, 2011 in Paris, wanted to know more about its customers on the occasion of its birthday.

Two-thirds of passengers use the app frequently: 46% several times a month and 20% several times a week, according to an online survey by Uber of 7,108 customers in November.

Passengers are 52% women.

Two-thirds (67%) of clients are under 34 and 20% are between 35 and 49.

Almost 80% of passengers use the Uber app to come home from the evening and two-thirds (66%) to go out (bar, restaurant, cinema).

47% say they choose Uber so as not to drive after drinking.

In ten years, nearly 70,000 VTC drivers have used the Uber platform, including 30,000 currently.

Drivers are 42 years old on average, according to a Harris Interactive study for Uber.

47% are of French nationality but at least one of their parents is foreign and 30% are themselves foreigners.

They are 80% to wish to remain independent in the future and only 18% would prefer to become employees.

This consultation was carried out online from October 14 to November 2, 2021 with 2,284 drivers using Uber.
